Keith Urban at 59: A Birthday Rooted in Guitar
Celebrate Keith Urban’s 59th birthday with his early guitar beginnings and Opry milestones.
On October 26, 1967, Keith Urban was born in New Zealand.
Raised in Queensland, he was singing and playing guitar in public before his teens, including performances on Reg Lindsay’s Country Hour and at the Northern Suburbs Country Music Club near Caboolture.
From early performances to Nashville
Urban turns 59 on October 26, 2026. His early public appearances are a useful starting point for a birthday tribute: the guitar was part of his life long before his international career.
According to the Grand Ole Opry’s artist biography, he moved to Nashville in 1992. The Opry dates his debut there to September 29, 2000, and his induction to April 21, 2012.
A birthday for guitar listeners
Those milestones offer a route through Urban’s career, but this is also a good occasion to return to the playing itself. Pick a favourite performance, listen to how the guitar supports the song, and decide which part you would most like to learn.
