Yngwie Malmsteen is looking back at a career path he passed up. In Eamon O’Neill’s October 12 Eonmusic interview, the guitarist revisits David Lee Roth’s approach in 1985.

“I probably should have done it, but I didn’t,” Malmsteen says.

He recalls Roth attending his solo shows while Billy Sheehan’s Talas opened. Malmsteen says he declined because he wanted to continue his own career, and describes their relationship as friendly.

Malmsteen had already mentioned the Roth offer in Eonmusic’s August 2021 interview. This week’s conversation adds his latest reflection to an account he has told before.

A solo path into Hell or High Water

His next studio album, Hell or High Water, is due November 13 through Music Theories Recordings / Artone Label Group. The label lists nine tracks, including “Beyond Zeta Reticuli” and “Father.”
