Tony Iommi has released “Stormwatcher,” a new single from his forthcoming solo album From The Dark. The track and its animated video arrived on September 30. The album is due October 23 through BMG.

A ship in the storm

Jørn Lande supplies the vocals, with the accompanying announcement framing the storm-bound ship as a metaphor for navigating life’s difficulties. That maritime setting gives the song and video a shared narrative, rather than leaving the title as decoration.

The official video credits name Daniel Gray as writer and director, with animation and post-production by CUB Animation Budapest.

The players behind the single

The track credits put Iommi on guitar alongside Becky Baldwin on bass, Karl Brazil on drums and Mike Exeter on keyboards. Iommi and Exeter produced the recording; Exeter and Andy Sneap handled the mix.

Writing is credited to Iommi, Lande and Exeter, while all lyrics and vocal melodies are credited to Lande. For listeners following Iommi’s next chapter, those credits provide a clear picture of the collaboration behind the release.

From World Alone to From The Dark

“Stormwatcher” follows “World Alone,” introduced as the first single in the July 29 album announcement. It sits fifth in the standard eight-song running order, between “Beyond The Dead” and “Death Wake.” The deluxe CD adds “Scent Of Dark” and an extended version of “Deified.”
