Blue Cat’s Free Amp 2.0 Adds Bass, Reverb and Standalone Use
Blue Cat’s free amp simulator gains a bass model, reverb and standalone operation while retaining its V1 models.

Blue Cat’s Free Amp 2.0 arrived on October 2, 2026 with a rebuilt amp engine, a dedicated bass model and standalone operation. The free simulator now gives guitarists and bassists four models to work with: Classic Clean, Classic Drive, Modern Drive and Classic Bass.
A new engine, with the old models retained
The update moves the amp models to Blue Cat’s Destructor V2 engine and adds reverb drawn from Axiom to every amp. The original V1 models remain available for compatibility with existing projects.
Standalone operation is another practical addition: Free Amp can run without opening a DAW, while plugin operation remains available for recording and mixing.
What changes for existing users?
The new bass model, engine, reverb and standalone application are the main additions. Loading your own cabinet or reverb impulse responses was already supported, having arrived with version 1.1 in 2018.
That makes the update worth checking against how you actually use the software: guitar and bass parts, quick practice sessions or older projects that rely on the previous models. Blue Cat still requires no registration, hardware dongle or newsletter subscription. The official Free Amp page has downloads and the full version history.
