Positive Grid’s Spark CAB 2 gives Spark and modeler rigs a 140W speaker upgrade

Positive Grid has introduced Spark CAB 2, a powered full-range, flat-response cabinet for its Spark amps and other line-level guitar rigs. Announced on October 27, the new model is listed at $399 on the company’s US store.

The important distinction is what it adds: amplification and speakers, rather than another set of amp models. Your Spark, floor modeler or amp-modeling pedal supplies the sound; CAB 2 makes that signal audible in the room.

What changes—and what connects

The cabinet has a 140-watt power section, one 10-inch woofer and two 1-inch tweeters. Positive Grid says the power rating and speaker configuration are unchanged from the original CAB. Positive Grid describes re-tuned acoustics and an upgraded signal path, with a finish designed to match Spark 2. Those are manufacturer claims about the update, not findings from our own listening test.

A dedicated 3.5mm stereo Spark input sits alongside XLR/TRS combo inputs. A balanced XLR output can feed the PA, while separate Speaker Volume and Line Out Volume controls let players adjust their stage level independently of the feed going to the sound desk.

One outlet, with an important limit

Its DC output can power Spark 2, using the included adapter, or Spark 40. USB-C provides power and charging for Spark MINI, GO and PEDAL. The cabinet still needs mains power; this is not a battery-powered replacement for those portable units.

Crucially, CAB 2 expects a suitable line-level source. Positive Grid warns against connecting traditional amplifier heads directly, and says microphones need a mixer or preamp first. It should not be mistaken for a passive cabinet waiting for a tube amp’s speaker output.
