Foo Fighters have brought Gerry Rafferty’s “Baker Street” to Jimmy Kimmel Live, with the show sharing an official performance video from the band’s week-long residency. The clip became available on October 30 in UTC, following its late-night October 29 publication time in California.

JamBase reports that the performance closed the band’s four-night run and aired on Thursday, October 29. The outlet dates the filming to October 26, so this was not a live broadcast of a performance happening that Thursday evening.

A familiar cover, not a newly discovered recording

There is an important distinction between the new television performance and the band’s existing recording. A separate RCA-supplied Foo Fighters audio upload carries a January 19, 1998 release date and credits Rafferty as the song’s writer. Its appearance on YouTube this October does not turn that recording into a new 2026 studio session.

That makes the Kimmel video the current news: a fresh performance of a song with an established place in the band’s recorded history, rather than a first-ever Foo Fighters release of “Baker Street.”

A question for guitar players

A cover also raises a useful arranging question: which parts of a familiar song do you preserve, and where do you make room for your own band’s identity? Watch the official Kimmel performance and decide where this version lands for you.
