Ovation puts Gus G.’s electric-guitar priorities into a new signature acoustic
Gus G.’s new Ovation signature acoustic focuses on electric-player comfort with a Super Shallow body, flat-profile neck and onboard electronics.
Gus G.’s new Ovation signature takes a practical rock-guitar question seriously: what happens when the acoustic part arrives halfway through a set built around electrics? The 1868-GUS-G Pro Series Elite pairs a Super Shallow body with a flat-profile neck, giving the Firewind guitarist’s signature model a clear emphasis on the transition between instruments.
Ovation unveiled the acoustic-electric on October 30. The company describes the slim body and neck as central to the collaboration, rather than treating the signature treatment as a finish alone.
A shallow roundback with a spruce top
The construction combines a solid Sitka spruce top with scalloped X-bracing and a Lyrachord GS bowl. A maple neck carries a pau ferro fingerboard; the scale measures 643mm and the nut is 42.8mm wide.
The visual identity is equally specific: an anthracite top with pinstripe flames, metal-flake detailing and an abalone cross at the 12th fret. It is a distinctive extension of Gus G.’s rock and metal background.
The plugged-in side
Ovation’s product specification pairs its OCP-1K pickup with an OP-Pro preamp and onboard tuner. That is the relevant part of the design for players planning to run an acoustic through a live rig. Actual tone, comfort and feedback behavior still depend on the instrument, setup and stage; this is a release report, not a hands-on test.
An Ovation gig bag is included. The launch announcement directs buyers to authorized dealers, so check local pricing and availability rather than assuming a worldwide stock position.
