The Mosaic Window has released “Lightning Be Thy Guide,” the second single from Answered Prayers. The ten-track album is scheduled for November 13, 2026, through Vesperian/Metal Blade Records. Vesperian dates the single October 14; the Earsplit announcement followed on October 15.

The useful detail is the pace. Earsplit describes the track as predominantly mid-tempo, while Vesperian’s release notes emphasize the contrast between black-metal aggression and quieter passages. For a record being introduced as a return to earlier black-metal traditions, that makes the second single a useful test of how much space the arrangements leave around the attack.

A solo project, with specific studio credits

Andrew Steven Brown, credited here as Skeletonhammer, remains the musician behind The Mosaic Window. The album credits pair his instrumental and vocal work with session drums by Dmitry Kim. Alex Sedin handled mixing and mastering at Ghostalgy Productions. Those roles matter: the solo-project description should not erase the other musicians and production work involved.

The label frames Answered Prayers as a move away from the more polished, progressive death/black-metal direction of 2024’s Hemasanctum. Its stated reference points are the first and second waves of black metal. That is the project’s declared direction, rather than a verdict on an album that has yet to reach its release date.

There is already a second listening point. The earlier single, “What Sage Could Not Cleanse,” is an older composition according to Vesperian; it follows “Lightning Be Thy Guide” in the album’s running order. Comparing the two gives listeners a more specific question than whether the new record is simply heavier: how do pace, restraint and melody work together?

The official catalog traces the project through Hollow in 2021, Plight of Acceptance in 2023 and Hemasanctum in 2024. Answered Prayers adds a bleak fictional premise, imagining humanity erased before the Industrial Revolution. The practical starting point is smaller: listen to the two available singles, then decide which side of Brown’s writing you want to hear expanded across the full record.
