TONEX Parametric Aims to Capture Amp Controls, Not Just One Setting
IK’s new TONEX technology aims to capture changing amp and pedal controls. Player and Board are first, with further hardware support planned for 2027.
TONEX Parametric Aims to Capture Amp Controls, Not Just One Setting
IK Multimedia has announced TONEX Parametric Tone Model technology, a new approach designed to capture how an amplifier or pedal responds when its controls move. Announced on October 29, the technology is scheduled to reach TONEX Player software and TONEX Board through a free update in November 2026.
This is a separate announcement from the TONEX Free Unlimited update we previously covered: the new development concerns how captured controls respond, rather than download and capture limits.
From a fixed setting to a range of controls
A conventional TONEX capture preserves a particular rig at a chosen setting. IK says its new system can capture up to ten positions per control across as many as six knobs or switches, then use a neural network to predict the response between those settings and across combinations of controls.
The distinction is useful for guitarists who want to explore a captured amplifier rather than stay close to one selected sound. That is the intended benefit, not a hands-on verdict: IK’s claims about realism have not been independently tested here.
Eleven free models are planned for November
The initial collection will contain ten amplifier models and one pedal model, available free to all TONEX Player users—including the free CS edition—and TONEX Board owners.
IK’s contributions include models based on a Fender ’65 Deluxe Reverb, Marshall JCM900 Channel B and MXR Distortion+. Tone Partner contributions add models based on gear including a Friedman BE-100, VOX AC30 and Soldano SLO-100. These are digital models based on those products, not new physical amplifiers or an endorsement by their manufacturers.
Check which part of the roadmap applies to your rig
November is the planned starting point for Player and Board. The first commercial model collections are scheduled for December 2026, while support for TONEX Pedal, TONEX ONE, TONEX ONE+ and TONEX Plug is scheduled for the first half of 2027. Owners of those devices should not read the November announcement as immediate compatibility.
Creating your own Parametric Tone Models is a separate step. IK’s product roadmap places the TONEX Modeler update for user-made captures in the first half of 2027, rather than the initial November playback rollout.
IK also says existing Tone Models will remain fully supported. Parametric models still reflect the original capture’s cabinet, microphones and recording chain: extra control does not make every capture of the same amp interchangeable.
For players, the question is straightforward: how much of their favourite amp’s control range will the new models make available? November’s planned free collection should offer a practical way to find out.
